With the aim of promoting solar energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ on 15 February 2024. Under this scheme, up to 40 percent subsidy is given for installing solar panels in homes. The scheme aims to benefit 1 crore families and save the government Rs 75,000 crore every year on electricity expenses. The biggest benefit of this scheme is free electricity. Solar panels will reduce the electricity bill, or the bill will not come at all.
This will also benefit the government by reducing the expenditure on electricity. Another major aspect of this scheme is that it will promote renewable energy. There is no pollution in making electricity from solar panels, so it is also good for the environment. Let’s know how this plan works. Who can apply for it, and what are the conditions for availing of the scheme?
What is the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme?
This is a government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to the people of the country. This scheme is very beneficial for those who are troubled by electricity bills. This will not only reduce your electricity bill or reduce it, but you will also help save the environment. The scheme has several benefits, including subsidies on rooftop solar plants, free electricity for households, reductions in carbon emissions, and reductions in the cost of electricity for the government.
How much money will be saved by installing solar panels?
If you install a solar panel of 3 kilowatt capacity, then about 300 units of electricity will be free every month. This can save about 15 thousand rupees annually. If your electricity bill comes from 1800 to 1875 rupees, then this scheme is very beneficial for you. The best thing about this scheme is that if you generate more than 300 units of electricity, you can also sell it to DISCOM (a power distribution company).
The government is giving subsidies of up to 40 percent on 3 kW capacity solar systems and 60 percent on systems up to 2 kW. However, subsidy will be available only on systems up to 3 kW capacity. In such a situation, if you install a 1 kW system, then you will get a subsidy of Rs 30,000; if you install a 2 kW system, you will get a subsidy of Rs 60,000; and if you install a 3 kW system, you will get a subsidy of Rs 78,000.
Who can apply?
To take advantage of this scheme, you have to fulfill certain conditions. You must be an Indian citizen and own your own house. There should be space on the roof of the house to install solar panels. You must have an electricity connection, and you have not taken any other subsidy for solar panels before. To take advantage of this scheme, you have to apply online on the website https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in/consumerLogin. Here you have to give some information, such as your state, electricity distribution company, electricity consumer number, mobile number, email, etc. After applying, you will have to wait for approval from the DISCOM. After getting the approval, you can get the plant installed from any vendor registered in DISCOM.
