Potato Price Update: Potato prices in Odisha have gone up recently due to West Bengal’s decision to halt the supply of essential kitchen items to the state. Currently, there are numerous trucks filled with potatoes waiting near the Odisha-Bengal border because vehicles have not been permitted to cross the interstate border since Wednesday night.

Increased from Rs 30-33 per kg to Rs 40 per kg

A lot of these trucks have gone back to their starting point because the potatoes might go bad. Traders have reported that the price of potatoes in retail markets has increased from Rs 30-33 per kg to Rs 40 per kg in Odisha. He warned that without the supply being restored, potato prices could continue to rise.

Issue in the potato supply from West Bengal?

The All Odisha Traders Association’s secretary, Sudhakar Panda, has requested the Odisha government to step in and negotiate with West Bengal to permit the entry of potato trucks into the state. Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishnachandra Patra reported an issue in the potato supply from West Bengal when questioned about it. He stated that they will source potatoes from either Punjab or Uttar Pradesh to guarantee a seamless experience for consumers.

Odisha needs approximately 4500 tonnes of potatoes

Every day, Odisha needs approximately 4500 tonnes of potatoes. The state heavily relies on West Bengal for this.
