The government has made different rules related to ration cards for citizens living in urban and rural areas. This means that citizens living in urban areas will have to fulfil different eligibility requirements for rations, while people in rural areas will have to fulfil different eligibility requirements. If you also are not eligible for this, then the ration card should be surrendered.
Rules for urban areas
If you live in an urban area, your entire family should not have a house or plot of more than 100 square meters (1076 square feet). Apart from this, no one in the family should have a four-wheeler. Apart from this, even if an AC fridge or generator of more than 5 KV is installed in the house, the ration card must be surrendered.
Apart from this, there should also not be a commercial plot of more than 861 square feet. Only one weapon license is approved in a family in urban areas, if it is more than this, then your ration card will be canceled.
Rules for rural areas
If the family has a car, tractor or harvester, you must surrender the ration card. Apart from this, the ration card must be surrendered if a generator is larger than 5 KV. The family should not have more than 5 acres of agricultural land. There should not be a TV, fridge or AC. The total annual income of the family should not exceed Rs 2 lakh. Apart from this, there should not be more than 1 licensed weapon or government job.
