Another big news is waiting for ration card holders. The Government of India offers free and affordable rations to millions of citizens through the National Food Security Act (NFSA). To benefit from this program, having a ration card is essential. However, starting January 1, 2025, significant changes will be introduced for ration cardholders. These changes will particularly affect those who have not yet completed the e-KYC process.

What is the significance of e-KYC?

The government has made e-KYC a requirement to confirm the identities of ration cardholders. This measure aims to eliminate fake ration cards and prevent fraud. Without e-KYC, it becomes challenging for the government to ensure that rations are distributed to the rightful beneficiaries.

Deadline: December 31, 2024

The government previously extended the deadline for e-KYC, and now it is set for December 31, 2024. If ration cardholders fail to complete the e-KYC process by this date, their ration cards will be canceled effective January 1, 2025.

Who will be impacted?

This new regulation will affect all ration cardholders who have not yet completed their e-KYC. If you find yourself in this situation, it’s important to visit your nearest ration depot and complete the e-KYC process as soon as possible.

How to complete e-KYC?

At the ration depot: Bring your Aadhaar card to the ration depot, where you will complete the process by providing your fingerprint on the POS machine.

Via mobile: You can also complete the e-KYC process using your mobile phone by accessing the relevant website or app provided by your state government.

Why are these new regulations necessary?

The government aims to ensure that rations are distributed only to those who are eligible. Implementing e-KYC will enhance the transparency and accuracy of this process.
