The Government of India runs many schemes to assist the people of the country. Even today, many individuals cannot afford two meals a day. To support such poor and needy people, the government provides free ration under the National Food Security Act.

Many people benefit from this scheme, receiving ration at a subsidized price. To avail of this, the government issues ration cards to eligible individuals. There are crores of ration card holders in the country who take advantage of this free ration scheme. Recently, the government announced a major update for ration card holders. Starting from the new year, ration card holders will receive ₹1000 along with their regular ration.

There are 80 crore ration card holders in the country under the National Food Security Act, who are currently provided ration by the government. In a move to improve the distribution system, the Government of India has introduced changes aimed at offering financial benefits to these beneficiaries. This initiative is designed to help poor families meet their daily needs (Ration Card Update).

Eligibility for the Benefit

While this initiative will support many families, the government has set specific eligibility criteria. Not all ration card holders will be eligible for this benefit. We will explain which categories of ration card holders will be able to avail of this benefit.

What Will Be Provided Starting January 2025?

From January 2025, ration card holders will receive 5 kg of free ration each month. In addition to this, ₹1000 will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiary families.

How to Complete the e-KYC Process

To get your e-KYC done, both the cardholder and the head of the household should visit the nearest ration dealer’s shop. Inform the dealer that you need to complete the e-KYC for your ration card. Ensure that you have your ration card, a copy of it, and a copy of your Aadhaar card. The ration dealer will perform the e-KYC by taking your fingerprints.

Protect Yourself From Fraud

Be aware of possible fraud related to e-KYC services. If someone calls or sends a message asking you to complete your e-KYC and requests an OTP, do not share it. This could be a scam. Always complete your e-KYC in person through the official ration dealer to avoid fraud.
