What did Nirmala Sitharaman say
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given big information about Sahara’s dues in the Lok Sabha. She said that the entire matter related to Sahara India is under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
She said that there are about 3.7 crore investors in Sahara India Royal Estate Corporation Limited, Sahara Housing, and Sahara India Corporation. People were asked to claim three times, but till now very few people have come forward.

The committee of retired Supreme Court Justice BN Agarwal is investigating this matter. The Finance Minister said that a claim of Rs 138.07 crore had come, which has been released.
Still, Rs 25781 crore is yet to be distributed. 18 properties of Sahara India have been attached. After the formation of the Cooperative Ministry, funds were sought for payment of claims.
1.21 crore claims came, out of which Rs 374 crore were released. Justice Subhash Redro’s Committee is monitoring this matter.
The hope of getting Sahara’s money
Nirmala Sitharaman said that till now only 17000 applicants have asked for their money back. Whereas there are more than 3 crore investors.
Out of these, only 19650 people applied online, out of which 17,250 claims have been settled. More documents have been sought from the remaining applicants.

Investors have been running around the court for many years. Assurances have been given by the government, but the situation at the ground level remains the same.
Most of the investors have not received even a single penny back yet. They are facing a livelihood crisis and no concrete steps are being taken by the government.
