Great news for state government workers! The Jammu and Kashmir government has raised the dearness allowance (DA) for both employees and pensioners under the Sixth Pay Commission from 239% to 246% of their basic pay and pension. According to the Finance Department’s announcement, those still receiving their salaries based on the old pay scale of the Sixth Pay Commission will benefit from this updated DA.

The order states that any arrears from July 2024 to February 2025 will be paid out in cash in March 2025, and the new DA will be reflected in monthly salaries starting that same month. Also, any fractions of 50 paise and above will be rounded up to the nearest whole rupee, while amounts below 50 paise will be disregarded.

In another update, the government has also increased the DA for pensioners and family pensioners under the Sixth Pay Commission from 239% to 246%, effective July 1, 2024. Pensioners will receive their arrears in March 2025, and future payments will include the updated DA.

On top of that, they will receive eight months’ worth of DA arrears, as confirmed by the Finance Department. While the Jammu and Kashmir government has made this DA increase official, the central government has yet to announce any similar changes. Many were hoping for an announcement regarding a DA hike for central government employees and dearness relief (DR) for retired central government employees before the elections, but nothing has been revealed so far.
