Indian Railways prioritizes your comfort and safety, along with your meals throughout the trip. To provide you with tasty meals right on the train, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) ensures thorough planning for food service onboard. Throughout the trip, the railways organize everything for you to have meals at various times. In addition to the set menu, you have the option to select food according to your preference. Nonetheless, there are often grievances from passengers regarding being charged elevated prices for food. To address this, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed the Parliament that it is essential to exhibit the prices and menu of the food provided to passengers on the trains.

The Railway Minister stated that…

The Railway Minister stated that for passengers’ information, the complete list and prices of all food items are available on the IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) website. Printed menus containing all the information are provided to the waitstaff and handed to the passengers upon request.

The Railway Minister stated, “Price lists have been posted in the kitchen cars as well.” In addition to this, to inform passengers about the catering menu and charges in Indian Railways, SMS notifications are now being sent to them containing the link to the menu and charges.

The minister stated that food safety inspectors have been assigned to the base kitchens to oversee the choice and usage of cooking oil, flour, rice, pulses, spices, paneer, dairy items, along with food safety and hygiene practices. He mentioned that IRCTC supervisors are also assigned to trains and ‘QR codes’ have been placed on food packets to show details such as the kitchen’s name, packaging date, etc.
