However, today we want to share the inspiring story of an individual who achieved the status of IAS officer without taking the UPSC exam. Tragically, he lost his father at a young age and spent his childhood in an orphanage while working as a delivery boy. Let’s discover who this remarkable IAS officer is.
Meet B Abdul Nasar, whose journey began in the Thalassery region of Kannur district in Kerala. At just five years old, he faced the loss of his father, which led him and his siblings to an orphanage. His mother took on the role of a domestic worker to support the family. For 13 years, Nasser lived in various orphanages across Kerala, completing his education during that time.
As he turned ten, Abdul Nassar took on jobs to help with the family’s financial struggles. He worked as a cleaner and supplier for several hotels. Although he often ran away from the orphanage, he always returned to continue his studies. Despite the hardships, he completed his 12th grade and graduated from Government College in Thalassery, all while juggling part-time jobs like tutoring, operating a phone, and delivering newspapers.
His first government job came in 1994
In 1994, B. Abdul Nasser earned his postgraduate degree and successfully passed a competitive exam, landing a position in the Kerala Health Department. But he didn’t stop there; he went on to clear the State Civil Services Examination in 2006, becoming a Deputy Collector.
Abdul Nassar’s journey to becoming an IAS officer
With relentless determination and hard work, Abdul Nasser was recognized as the top Deputy Collector in Kerala in 2015. His efforts paid off when he was promoted to IAS officer in 2017. His initial role in the Kerala government was as a housing commissioner, and by 2019, he had become the district collector of Kollam. Thus, Abdul Nasser achieved the status of IAS officer without ever sitting for the UPSC exam.
