Good news for post office account holder’s. If you have a savings account at the post office, you typically need to visit every three years to complete your KYC process by submitting identity and address documents. However, India Post is set to ease this requirement. You will no longer need to make that trip, as the entire KYC process can now be done online from the comfort of your home.

This new initiative will first be launched in Karnataka, benefiting around 1.9 crore postal account holders in the state. According to Karnataka’s Chief Postmaster General, Rajendra S Kumar, following the Reserve Bank’s guidelines, there will be no need to present original documents at the post office every three years. Instead, KYC will be completed through online Aadhaar authentication.

Physical biometric fingerprint verification will soon be a thing of the past. Savings bank account holders at the post office currently need to visit in person every three years to complete their KYC and biometric verification. However, Karnataka’s Chief PMG has announced that this process will soon be available through a mobile app. This means that anyone can complete their verification from the comfort of their home by simply downloading the app.

To use the mobile app for fingerprint verification, account holders will first need to log in to the e-banking section on the India Post website, indiapost.gov.in. After logging in, they will need to upload all necessary KYC documents. One of the greatest benefits of this new facility is that you can open a post office account without needing to bring original documents. The postal department will verify your identity using Aadhaar authentication, allowing you to carry out all account-related transactions seamlessly.
