President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday released a commemorative coin and postage stamp of Rs 75 in Parliament to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The historic coin was released during a ceremony held in the Central Hall of the Constituent Assembly in New Delhi. Addressing the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Constitution Day, Murmu said the Constitution is a living and progressive document. The President also unveiled the first Sanskrit copy of the Constitution and its Maithili version.

 

Appeal to Indians to follow fundamental duties

Addressing the gathering, President Droupadi Murmu referred to the adoption of the Constitution 75 years ago and described it as a historic moment, the report said. He also stressed the contribution of the 15 women members of the Constituent Assembly in shaping the country’s basic text. The President urged all Indians to imbibe constitutional ideals in their conduct, perform their fundamental duties, and work towards achieving the national goal of a developed India by 2047.

President Murmu said that I am heartily happy to be among all of you on the auspicious occasion of Constitution Day. The Constitution is the most sacred book of our country. Our Constitution is the bedrock of our democratic republic. Our Constitution guarantees our collective and individual self-respect. The diversity of our country found expression in our Constituent Assembly. The presence of representatives of all the provinces and regions in the Constituent Assembly gave voice to the pan-Indian consciousness.

 

Work together

President Murmu said that, as per the spirit of the Constitution, it is the duty of the executive, legislature, and judiciary to work together to improve ease of living for the common people. He said that during the last few years, the government has taken several steps for the development of all sections of society, especially the weaker sections. Such decisions have improved the lives of the people and are providing them new opportunities for progress.
