Subsidy for farmers: The central and state governments are implementing various initiatives aimed at enhancing farmers’ income. To achieve this, there is a push for commercial farming alongside traditional agricultural practices. In this context, the Bihar Government has announced plans to promote the cultivation of figs and coconuts throughout the state.

Government covering 40 percent of this cost

Additionally, strawberries will be grown in 20 districts of Bihar. The state government will provide subsidies for the cultivation of figs and strawberries, expanding the Fig Fruit Development Scheme. The total expenditure for fig cultivation is estimated at Rs 1 lakh 25 thousand, with the government covering 40 percent of this cost.

Rs 50,000 per hectare

Farmers will receive a total of Rs 50,000 per hectare, disbursed in three installments. The subsidy for fig cultivation will amount to Rs 30,000 in the first year, followed by Rs 10,000 in both the second and third years. Beneficiaries will be selected from the general category (78.56%), Scheduled Castes (20%), and Scheduled Tribes (1.44%), with a commitment to ensure 30% participation from women in each category.

Furthermore, coconut cultivation will be promoted statewide, with coconut saplings being distributed. Each sapling costs Rs 85, and the government is providing a 75% subsidy, amounting to Rs 63.75 per sapling. This initiative is open to farmers willing to plant saplings in their land, yards, kitchen gardens, or farms near their residences, including those in urban areas. The coconut tree (Cocos nucifera) is recognized as one of the most beneficial trees globally, with every part serving a purpose for humans.

The primary goal is to encourage the planting of coconut saplings in non-traditional coconut-growing regions such as Bihar. Farmers interested in these schemes can apply through the official website of the Directorate of Horticulture at https://horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
