Big relief for Aadhaar Card Holder’s. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar for free by 6 months. On 14 December 2024 was the last date to update Aadhaar for free. It has now been extended to 14 June 2025.
UIDAI extends date
The government has pushed this deadline several times in the past. Earlier it was extended for three-three months, while this time the deadline has been extended for 6 months. This information has been given by UIDAI by posting a post on X.
A fee will be charged for offline updates at Aadhaar centres. However, on the MyAadhaar portal, Aadhaar holders will be able to update their Aadhaar for free till June 14, 2025. This means that if you want to update any information by going to the Aadhaar center, then you will have to pay a fee for it. You will need two important documents for Aadhaar update. First identity card and second address proof.

In today’s time, Aadhaar has become a very important document, which is used in many tasks including government schemes, opening bank accounts, booking train and flight tickets. The Aadhaar card contains demographic information such as name, address, age, gender, and biometric data of every person.
Is it mandatory to update Aadhaar?
Updating of Aadhaar is not mandatory. UIDAI has clarified several times that it is not necessary to update Aadhaar. However, if the Aadhaar card is outdated, updating it can prove beneficial. UIDAI has suggested that it would be advisable to update the identity and address proof documents.
