Unable to Update Aadhaar Card Mistakes Online? Here’s What You Can Correct from Home

Some documents are essential as proof of identity, which we need regularly for various tasks. These include Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, voter IDs, driving licenses, and ration cards. For Indian citizens, having an Aadhaar card is mandatory. However, mistakes sometimes occur while making an Aadhaar card, such as errors in the name or date of birth. The good news is that Aadhaar information can be updated. Today, we will explain what information in your Aadhaar card can be updated online and what cannot.

Changes You Can Make to Aadhaar Online

  • Name: If there is a minor spelling mistake in your name, you can update it online.
  • Date of Birth: You can correct a minor error in your date of birth, but note that this can only be updated once.
  • Gender: You can update your gender (Male/Female/Transgender) online.
  • Address: Your address can also be updated online, but you need to attach valid proof.
  • Mobile Number and Email ID: Both your mobile number and email ID can be updated online.

How to Update Aadhaar Card Online:

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website.

Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code, and an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Log in by entering the OTP.

Step 4: Select the option to “Update Aadhaar Online.”

Step 5: Choose the information you want to update, such as name, date of birth, etc.

Step 6: Enter the new information.

Step 7: Upload the required documents for the update request.

Step 8: Submit the update request.

Once submitted, you will receive an Update Request Number (URN) via SMS.

Updating Biometric Information

There are two types of information in your Aadhaar card: Demographic Information and Biometric Information. You can update demographic information online, but for biometric information (fingerprints, iris scan, and photo), you will need to visit the Aadhaar center.

  1. Changing Name or Surname
  2. If you want to change your full name or surname, you will need to visit the Aadhaar center to make the change.
  3. Checking Aadhaar Update Status
  4. Go to the UIDAI website.
  5. Select the “Check Aadhaar Update Status” option.
  6. Enter your Update Request Number (URN) to check the status.

Note: Online Aadhaar updates take 5-7 days, while offline updates take 10-15 days.
