Unified Payments Interface, known as UPI, is the most widely used platform today. Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this payment system offers many features. Here, we will tell you about the 5 most useful features of UPI.
1. UPI Lite
UPI Lite allows you to make payments without a password. Under the new rules, you can make payments of up to ₹1,000. It also works in offline mode, which is useful in areas with network issues. If money is added in advance, you can make payments without worrying about the network.
2. UPI Wallet
UPI Wallet is a simple and secure way to make small and fast digital payments. You can add money in advance and make payments instantly without needing an OTP or bank confirmation every time. It is useful for small transactions like groceries, tea, or local shopping. UPI Wallet also ensures privacy by allowing payments without sharing bank account details.
3. Real-Time Money Transfer
UPI allows money transfers between bank accounts in real-time, 24/7, even on holidays. You don’t have to worry about the time or day to send money. Online payments can be made in just one click, making it especially helpful for emergencies and daily transactions.
4. Single Platform for Multiple Bank Accounts
One of the biggest advantages of UPI is that you can link multiple bank accounts to a single UPI app. This means you don’t need multiple banking apps. You can manage all your accounts, check balances, and transfer money from one place, saving time and making money management easier.
5. Secure and Hassle-Free Transactions
UPI uses two-step authentication for secure payments. It combines a mobile PIN (MPIN) with a virtual payment address (VPA), so you don’t need to share sensitive details like your account number or IFSC code. Additionally, UPI apps use strong encryption and fraud detection systems for better security.
UPI ID New Rule: Changes Effective from February 1, 2025
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has implemented new rules for UPI IDs. Now, only alphabets and numbers can be used—special characters like @, #, and $ are not allowed. Violating this rule will result in UPI ID cancellation.
However, there is no change in UPI payment limits or existing rules. Users can create UPI IDs on apps like Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay while following the new guidelines.
