Even today, there are many women in the border and other areas of the country who use traditional resources like wood, dung cakes etc. to cook food. Cooking in these ways causes a lot of smoke. This can cause many health problems to women. In view of this problem of women, the Government of India is operating a very brilliant scheme. The name of this scheme is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

What is PM Ujjwala Yojana?

PM Modi launched the PM Ujjwala Yojana on 01 May 2016 to provide free gas connections to the poor. After running it for several years, it was also improved. After the reform, it is known as Ujjwala Yojana 2.0. It was started by PM Modi on 10 August 2021 from Mahoba in UP. Under this scheme, gas stove, gas regulator, pipe and first gas cylinder refill are also given free of cost to the beneficiaries.

What is the purpose of this scheme?

Even though there has been a lot of progress in metros and cities, there are still many villages in our country where women cook food in wood stoves. And its smoke has a bad effect on the health of women and children. It can also lead to respiratory diseases. Wood smoke also contaminates the environment. In view of these problems, the central government has planned to provide LPG gas connections to all needy women through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. So that the kitchen can be made smoke-free and the environment is also pure.
