Weather Update: North Bengal is set to see more rain and thunder. There’s even a chance of some snowfall in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. On the flip side, South Bengal is expected to stay dry for now, with clear skies all around. Temperatures are on the rise too.
Weather forecast from IMD Kolkata
According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, we can expect rain and thundershowers in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar this Friday, with the wet weather sticking around into Saturday. There might be some light rain in parts of North Dinajpur as well. Over the next 24 hours, temperatures in both North and South Bengal are likely to remain stable, but we could see a rise of two to three degrees in the next couple of days.
Weather in Kolkata
In Kolkata, the minimum temperature recorded on Thursday was 20.2 degrees Celsius, which is a two-degree jump in just one day. By Friday, the minimum didn’t drop below 22.2 degrees, which is 1.9 degrees above the usual. The maximum temperature on Thursday hit 30 degrees Celsius.
Cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan
A new western disturbance is expected to move into northwest India on March 2, gradually making its way east. There’s also a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, which means conditions for rain in North Bengal are still looking good, though heavy downpours aren’t anticipated. This winter has been milder than usual in West Bengal, with some rain occurring in various areas during Magh. Winter officially left Bengal around mid-February.
