Over the years, Indian Railways has been considered to be the lifeline of travel in the country. Every year, around 800 crore passengers travel by train in India. Train journeys are enjoyable when your seat is confirmed, but having a waiting or RAC ticket during peak times like festivals can be quite challenging. In emergencies, however, you can secure a confirmed seat from the waiting list through the railway’s emergency quota.

What is the emergency quota?

Waiting Ticket Confirmation: Indian Railways reserves certain seats for emergencies. This includes seats for Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, Judges, and other dignitaries, as well as for common passengers facing urgent needs.

Priority: Members of Parliament and other high-ranking officials receive priority for their travel.

Other Considerations: Following them, reasons such as government duties, family emergencies, serious health issues, or job interviews are also prioritized.

How many seats are reserved?

Every train has reserved seats under the emergency quota in all coaches. For instance, a train with 10 sleeper coaches has 18 seats reserved in each coach, totaling 180 seats available for confirmation. This reservation process is similar for Third AC, Second AC, and First AC coaches.

How to apply?

1. Go to your nearest ministry, zonal office, or division office.
2. Fill out an application form for the emergency quota.
3. Clearly state your reason (e.g., exam, illness, etc.).
4. Attach a copy of your ticket along with the emergency certificate.
5. Submit your application in the designated box at the office.
6. Remember to include your mobile number in the application.

Ensure you have all necessary documents before applying. The emergency quota is intended for passengers with genuine needs. In such cases, you can have your waiting ticket confirmed during emergencies by utilizing this special railway quota effectively.
