Recently, the Government of India has proposed a green tax on vehicles, in which the registration of private vehicles older than 15 years will be renewed. Also, according to the proposal, this tax will be lower for commercial vehicles but higher for any vehicle used in a city with high pollution. This tax can also be called pollution tax or environment tax because it is levied on all the items that cause pollution. Due to this tax, people will reduce the use of old vehicles, as well as the government will use the money to plant more trees and spend it on work towards reducing pollution.
But there is a new update revealed regarding Green Tax. If your vehicle is registered outside Uttarakhand, then you will have to pay green cess on entering Uttarakhand. After the implementation of the Green Cess, your Uttarakhand truck will be more expensive than before. The Uttarakhand government will soon impose a green cess on vehicles coming from other states. An official gave this information on Saturday. The amount would range from Rs 20 to Rs 80 and would be equally applicable to both commercial and private vehicles, he said. Two-wheelers, electric and CNG vehicles, vehicles registered in Uttarakhand and those engaged in essential services like ambulance and fire brigade will be exempted, the official said.
Tender process has started, system may be operational by December end
Uttarakhand Joint Commissioner (Transport) Sanat Kumar Singh told PTI that the tender process has been started to implement the cess system. “Our target is to commission the system by the end of December,” he said.
What is Green Tax?
Let us tell you that green cess is a type of tax or fee that is levied to compensate for the damage caused to the environment. It is levied on activities that cause pollution, such as petrol and diesel vehicles, factories and industries, etc. The money received from the Green Cess is used for environmental protection.
Rs 20 on three-wheelers, Rs 40 on four-wheelers
Three-wheelers will be charged Rs 20, four-wheelers Rs 40, medium vehicles Rs 60 and heavy vehicles Rs 80, the joint commissioner said. The cess will be levied on a day entry basis, but vehicle owners will also have the option to pay a higher rate for extended validity passes, such as 20 times the daily rate for a three-month pass and 60 times the daily rate for an annual pass, the official explained.
