1. CNG
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is natural gas stored in a compressed form (200-250 bar pressure). The main component of CNG is methane, with small amounts of other hydrocarbons. Sulphur is added to detect any leakage. CNG is lighter than air, so if there is a leak, it disperses into the air. It is an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and efficient alternative to petrol and diesel for vehicles. CNG is widely used in auto-rickshaws, cars, and buses.
2. PNG
PNG (Piped Natural Gas) is similar to CNG, but it is supplied through pipelines for domestic cooking use. PNG is mainly composed of methane and is delivered through mild steel (MS) and polyethene (PE) pipes to meet the natural gas demand in homes, businesses, and industries. Domestic PNG helps reduce the hassle of traditional fuels and is an affordable and eco-friendly option. It is increasingly popular due to its many benefits.
3. LNG
LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is natural gas stored at super-cooled (cryogenic) temperatures, making it more energy-dense than other fuels. This reduces the need for frequent refuelling. However, LNG requires expensive storage facilities. It has various uses, including as a fuel, in industrial processes, and for transportation.
4. LPG
LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a by-product of petroleum refining and consists mainly of propane, butane, propylene, and butylene. It is heavier than air, so it tends to settle near the ground if there is a leak, which can be dangerous. LPG has been used as a portable fuel source since the 1860s and is now widely used for both domestic and industrial purposes.
