PAN Card Update: The central government has recently sanctioned the initiative to modernize the PAN card, which has been initiated as part of the government’s Digital India campaign. Following this decision by the central government, numerous questions concerning PAN are arising. Similar to this – will individuals who already possess a PAN card need to reapply for a PAN 2.0 card, what will occur with the existing card, and how much will it cost to create it? If you have this question on your mind as well, let’s discuss it in detail.

Under the PAN 2.0 initiative, citizens will soon receive a new PAN card featuring a QR code capability. By scanning this code, all the information of the PAN card holder, such as photo, signature, name, father’s/mother’s name, and date of birth, will be displayed. Besides this, taxpayer registration services will be updated in PAN 2.0. Furthermore, the existing PAN / TAN 1.0 ecosystem will be enhanced.

Those who submit their Income Tax Return (ITR) will gain significantly from this. The Income Tax Department released an FAQ on 26 November 2024 to address all inquiries regarding the PAN 2.0 initiative. In this, responses to several inquiries concerning PAN 2.0 have been provided.
