Right now, documents like the Aadhaar card, voter ID, and PAN card are all with them. They are needed from opening a bank account to all the work. Apart from this, these documents also work as your address proof. But if a person in your family dies due to some reason, then what should be done with these documents? Not many people know about it. Know here so that after the death of the person, no one can take advantage of his documents.
Voter ID
You get a chance to vote only through a voter ID. But after someone’s death, you can cancel his voter ID card. For this, you have to go to the election office and fill out Form-7, after which this card will be canceled. To cancel the voter ID, the death certificate of the deceased may be required.
Aadhaar Card
There is currently no system to cancel or surrender the Aadhaar card, but you can lock it. To lock the Aadhaar card, you have to go to the official website: www.uidai.gov.in. Select ‘My Aadhaar’ here and then click on ‘Aadhaar Services’. Then click on Lock/Unlock Biometrics. Now enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number and the given captcha code. With this, select the Send OTP option. OTP will come on the registered mobile number; enter it. After this, you will get the option to lock/unlock biometric data, which you can choose. Clicking the Lock button will lock the biometric data. Apart from this, if the person is taking advantage of any scheme or subsidy through Aadhaar before his death, then the concerned department should inform the person about his death. So that his name is removed from the scheme.
PAN Card
Along with filing income tax, a PAN card is required for all the tasks like opening a bank and demat account. But if the PAN cardholder dies, then his family members should surrender his card. For this, the family member of the deceased will have to contact the Income Tax Department. Before surrendering, all the accounts of the deceased should be transferred or closed in the name of another person. So that there is no problem in this work later.
Passport
Like the Aadhaar card, there is no system for cancellation of passport. After its deadline is over, it automatically becomes invalid. In such a situation, you should keep the passport till its deadline is over so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.
