Big news foe train travelers. During the Corona epidemic, the Railways had banned many types of discounts available to passengers. These include discounts on train tickets for senior citizens. Now a question was asked in Parliament about this matter, on which the Railway Ministry has also given a clear answer.

This question was asked in Parliament

In the Lok Sabha, a question was asked to the Ministry of Railways that earlier senior citizens of the country used to get discounts on the price of train tickets, which has been stopped. Is there a proposal to withdraw this exemption or has there been any decision in this regard?

The railway gave this answer

In response to this question, the Ministry of Railways said that at present, four categories of persons with disabilities, 11 categories of patients and 8 categories of students are being exempted in the country. In the year 2022-23, Rs 56,993 crore was spent by the Ministry of Railways as subsidy on all passengers traveling in the train.

For example, if the Railways offers Rs 100 to a passenger, then the passenger will be charged 46 per cent less than the price of the ticket i.e. only Rs 54. In this regard, a discount of about Rs 46 is already being given to passengers on a ticket of Rs 100.

This is what he said about senior citizens

According to the Railway Ministry, the effort of the Railways is to increase the facilities available to senior citizens. In such a situation, efforts are made to give senior citizens a lower seat, so that their journey is easier.

What is the meaning of the railways’ response?

It is worth mentioning that during the Corona period, the discount on train tickets for senior citizens was discontinued. After the end of the Corona epidemic, there has been a constant demand that the discount on the ticket price for senior citizens should be resumed.
