Mark in Coin: The Government of India issues currency notes as well as coins every year. However, the exact number of coins issued by the government every year is not available. At present, coins of the value of 50 paise, one rupee, two rupees, five rupees, ten rupees and twenty rupees are being issued in the country. Sometimes, the government also issues coins from Rs 100 to Rs 1000. The Government of India manufactures coins in the country. They are minted in four mints. These are Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Noida.

Every coin has a special mark

You can tell where any coin was minted by looking at it. That means you can tell in which of the four mints, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Noida, the coin was minted. However, there is no difference between coins of same value and same size. Their value, purchasing power, weight, face, back side are all the same. But, if you look carefully, you will see a special mark on it which will automatically tell you where that coin was made.

Marks on coins

Every coin has a special mark, which people usually ignore. There is a small mark below the part of the coin where the year of its manufacture is written. That mark tells us in which mint that coin was made. For example, if a coin has a diamond mark, then the coin is made in Mumbai Mint. Similarly, if there is no mark on the coin, then that coin will be minted in Kolkata Mint. If the coin has a star mark, then the coin will be minted in Hyderabad.

Which mark is on the coin made in which mint

1. The coins minted in Mumbai have a cut diamond, B or M marked on them.
2. The coins minted in Hyderabad have a star mark.
3. Coins made in Noida have a simple dot mark.
4. Coins made in Kolkata do not have any mark.
