Good news for women. The Bharatiya Janata Party pulled off a major upset in the Delhi Assembly elections, clinching a whopping 48 out of 70 seats. This result has pushed the long-standing Aam Aadmi Party out of power, and surprisingly, even their top leaders couldn’t hold onto their seats, leaving them with just 22 seats.
Now that the BJP is set to form the government in Delhi, everyone is curious about their election promises. During the campaign, the BJP laid out several commitments in their Sankalp Patra, including a monthly payment of Rs 2500 to women, free electricity, and a free gas cylinder for Holi and Diwali. With Holi approaching, all eyes are on their promise of providing free gas cylinders.
The BJP had also promised a Rs 500 subsidy on LPG cylinders for low-income families, along with the free cylinders during the festive seasons. Amit Shah, a senior BJP leader and Home Minister, stated that the new government would ensure free gas cylinders for all families during Holi and Diwali.
As for whether we’ll actually receive the cylinders on Holi, it’s important to note that the government hasn’t been formed yet following the elections. The fate of all the BJP’s promises will only be clear once the government is in place. However, it seems that the free gas cylinders will be available only to women who have an LPG connection.
The central government had launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to help provide gas connections to underprivileged women, but there are specific eligibility criteria to meet.
