As soon as winter arrived, People started facing many problems, from starting the vehicle to other issues. During this time, vehicles require more maintenance than usual. Talking about the people in India, they are facing many problems due to the limited availability of petrol. Electric vehicles, in particular, need more care in the cold season compared to petrol or diesel vehicles. The demand for electric vehicles has also increased in the Indian market in recent years, and many people have now become owners of electric vehicles. In this regard, we are sharing tips on how to maintain an electric car in winter.

Park in the Garage

Whenever possible, park your car inside a covered garage. In cold weather, the car’s battery drains quickly, making it harder to start. Parking the car in the garage helps retain heat, keeping the battery in better condition for longer. In contrast, a battery in open air, exposed to the cold, performs much worse.

Do Pre-conditioning in the Morning

Many electric cars come with mobile-controlled apps that allow you to pre-heat the car. Pre-conditioning helps prevent issues that often occur in the first few minutes of driving. Additionally, turning on the vehicle’s heater before starting your journey will warm up the interior, making it more comfortable when you start driving.

Avoid fast charging

Lithium-plating batteries are more damaged during winter. They heat up when they are fast-charged. Due to this vehicles with these batteries are prohibited from fast charging. Charge vehicles with this battery only with a normal charger.

Maintain tyre air pressure

When it gets very cold, the air pressure of the tyres decreases. Therefore, get the tyre pressure of the vehicle checked regularly. If the tyre air pressure is correct, the electric car also gives the right range. It also helps in increasing its range.

Use Eco Mode

Electric cars don’t have a fuel-powered engine, so running the heater at full capacity to warm up the cabin can quickly drain the car’s battery. To avoid this, you can use the heated seat feature. This helps conserve battery power, increases the range of your EV, and reduces the need for frequent charging.
