PAN Aadhar Link: Many PAN card holders are still yet to link their Aadhaar with PAN. To address this, the government has issued another deadline for this important requirement. Anyone who fails to complete the linking by this new deadline could face deactivation of their PAN card. This could lead to serious complications during financial transactions. If you haven’t done it yet, make sure you take immediate action.
New Deadline and PAN Deactivation Risk
As per the latest notification from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), PAN and Aadhaar must be linked by 31 December 2025. This applies especially to those who used Aadhaar Enrolment ID instead of a valid Aadhaar number while applying for PAN. If the PAN is not linked by this date, it will become inactive, making it impossible to use for financial transactions like opening a bank account, filing income tax returns, or making large payments.
Penalty for Missing the Deadline
Those who miss the deadline will have to pay a late fee of ₹1,000. This fee will apply even if both Aadhaar and PAN exist but haven’t been linked. Apart from the financial penalty, the risk of PAN deactivation can disrupt personal and business-related financial activities. To avoid these issues, it’s crucial to link both documents well before the deadline.
How to Link PAN with Aadhaar
Linking PAN with Aadhaar is a simple process and can be done online or offline. To link it online, visit the Income Tax Department’s official website and follow the instructions provided there. For offline linking, one can visit service centres of NSDL or UTIITSL. At the centre, you need to fill out the ‘Annexure-I’ form and submit it with copies of your PAN and Aadhaar cards. Both methods are secure and accepted by the tax department.
How to Check PAN-Aadhaar Linking Status
To avoid confusion, users can check their current PAN-Aadhaar linking status online. Visit the Income Tax Department portal and go to the PAN-Aadhaar status check page. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers and submit the form. The system will show whether the two IDs are already linked or still pending. This helps you stay updated and take quick action if needed.
