Bengal Weather Update: The weather of Bengal is changing rapidly. Kolkata’s temperature took a dip of five degrees Celsius overnight, bringing back a mild winter vibe since Friday morning. Meteorologists say we can expect that winter chill to stick around through the weekend, but don’t get too cozy—temperatures are set to rise again next week. It looks like winter might wrap up by mid-February, towards the end of Magh.
Lowest temperature recorded in Kolkata was 17.3 degrees
In the past 24 hours, the lowest temperature recorded in Kolkata was 17.3 degrees Celsius, which is a five-degree drop from Thursday. The highest temperature yesterday hit 30.2 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels in the air are hanging between 42 and 92 percent.
Temperatures fall by 3 to 5 degrees
Other districts in South Bengal have also seen temperatures fall by 3 to 5 degrees. There’s a chance for even cooler weather by Saturday, with fog expected especially in West Medinipur, Bankura, Birbhum, West Burdwan, and Murshidabad. Mornings will feel cold until Sunday and Monday, but temperatures will start to creep up after that.
Light to moderate fog
In North Bengal, light to moderate fog is predicted for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur today. The rest of the districts might see some light fog too, but no rain is on the horizon. Meteorologists expect the weather to stay steady until Sunday, with temperatures rising again starting Tuesday.
Looking ahead, the weather department has noted that a new western depression will move into northwest India on February 8, which could bring thunderstorms and rain to Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh will be shrouded in thick fog.
