Bengal Weather Update: Winter is officially supposed to end in February. But there is a twist in Bengal. Kolkata’s temperature took a dip of six degrees overnight, according to the Alipore Meteorological Department. They mentioned that it might cool down a bit more in the coming days, but don’t worry, it’ll warm up again soon. Plus, there’s a chance of rain in South Bengal next week.
On Friday, the lowest temperature in Kolkata was 17.7 degrees Celsius, which is pretty standard. Just a day before, it was at 23.5 degrees, which is 5.8 degrees above normal. So, that’s quite a drop in just one night! The night temperatures could fall another three to four degrees over the next couple of days. Alipore also noted that both North and South Bengal will see a decrease in temperature, but this chilly spell won’t stick around for long. By Monday, February 17, expect the mercury to rise by two to three degrees.
Possibilities of rain in south Bengal
As for rain, South Bengal might see some next week. Light rain is expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, as well as East and West Midnapore on Wednesday and Thursday. The rest of South Bengal should stay dry. Also, a fog warning has been issued for several districts, including North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad.
Right now, there’s no chance of rain across North Bengal. The weather is expected to stay mostly dry in all areas. That said, a dense fog alert has been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur.
This winter has been a bit warmer than normal. It’s not as chilly as it used to be, but the cold is making one last push before it fades away. Because of that, temperatures have dipped quite a bit. Meteorologists are saying this winter won’t stick around for long.
