Bengal Weather Update: Winter is playing a little game of hide and seek in Bengal. For South Bengal, it looks like the temperature won’t change much until Thursday. But starting Friday, we might see a drop in temperatures across several districts. Kolkata, however, isn’t expected to feel any new chill. Light rain is on the horizon for North Bengal starting Wednesday, and there’s even a chance of snowfall in Darjeeling.

Temperatures in South Bengal are slightly above average

Right now, temperatures in South Bengal are slightly above average. From Friday, we could see a dip of about two to three degrees in some areas. While winter vibes are making a comeback in the districts, the city itself seems to have lost its chill. It doesn’t look like temperatures in Kolkata will drop any further.

In the city, the nighttime temperature has risen by four degrees from the norm, sitting at 21.8 degrees. Tuesday saw daytime highs of 29.1 degrees. Humidity levels are hanging around 46 to 93 percent.

North Bengal is bracing for some rain

Meanwhile, North Bengal is bracing for some rain. The Meteorological Department is forecasting light rain and scattered thunderstorms in Darjeeling and Kalimpong, with a slight chance of light snowfall in Darjeeling as well.

These temperature swings are linked to an anticyclone over the North Bay of Bengal, which is bringing in a lot of moisture. This means we can expect more fog. Since Wednesday morning, several districts have been experiencing dense fog, and the sky is partly cloudy. It should clear up a bit by the afternoon.

Fog has reduced visibility in areas like North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East and West Midnapore, East Burdwan, and Nadia. In some spots, visibility has dropped below 200 meters. Dense fog warnings are also in place for a couple of districts on Thursday.
