Free Electricity Scheme: The Free Electricity Scheme has been approved by the Union Cabinet. Under this scheme, the government will provide a total assistance of Rs 75,021 crore for installing solar panels on the roof in one crore houses. Under this scheme, 300 units of free electricity will be given every month.
Key Features
1. Financial assistance: A subsidy of 60% will be given for 2 kW systems and 40% for 2-3 kW systems. The maximum subsidy will be applicable on systems up to 3 kW.
2. Loan at low interest rate: Loan without guarantee for installing solar panels on the roof of the house will be available at an interest rate of about 7%.
3. Model Solar Village: A model solar village will be developed in every district to promote rooftop solar panels in rural areas.
