MONSOON UPDATE: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heatwaves in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, western Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha.

The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning in Kerala from June 4-7, while a yellow alert has also been issued in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur on Tuesday.

Arrival of Monsoon

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the arrival of the monsoon ahead of schedule and has issued heavy rain warnings in several states.

This development has relieved the areas reeling under scorching heat and raised concerns about possible floods and waterlogging in various parts of the country.

Rain alert in these states

The monsoon, which usually arrives in early June, has arrived ahead of schedule this year, affecting states like Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced, covering a significant part of the southern and western regions of India. This early arrival is expected to relieve the heat conditions prevailing in many areas.

Heatwave alert in these states

Heat waves are likely to occur in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Bihar, and parts of West Bengal on different dates till June 7.

Hot and humid weather will prevail in Odisha till June 7, Bihar till June 5, and West Bengal on June 6-7.
