FASTag News: The Modi government is taking strict steps at this time to promote road safety and crack down on those who violate traffic rules. In this sequence, the Karnataka government has decided to implement a new Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on the Bengaluru-Mysore Motorway from July 1.

Under this system, cameras installed on the highway will identify vehicles violating traffic rules and will deduct challans directly from their FAS tags.

Highlights of the new rules:

ITMS will be fully implemented on the Bengaluru-Mysore Motorway from July 1. Drivers will be challaned directly from their FAS tags for violating traffic rules. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the speed limit.

Real-time SMS alerts will be sent to drivers for violating traffic rules. The number of cameras will be increased to monitor traffic. The new ANPR cameras will ensure smooth traffic management.

The new system is expected to reduce road accidents. Traffic rule violators will be curbed. Better traffic management will reduce traffic jams.

The process of challan payment will be easy, as the challan will be deducted directly from FASTag.

How will this system work?

Under ITMS, a network of cameras will be installed on the Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway. These cameras will record the speed, number plate, and other details of the vehicles. If a vehicle violates traffic rules, the cameras will identify it and automatically deduct the challan from its bank account linked to FASTag. An SMS of the challan will also be sent to the driver.
