Old pension in UP: Employees will have the option to choose old pension in UP till October 31. Some employees of the state are going to get its benefit. On Tuesday, the cabinet approved the proposal to give the opportunity to those who got government jobs on the basis of advertisement published before March 28, 2005 to choose the option of old pension scheme. About 50 thousand employees will benefit from this.
The state government has given the state employees the option to choose old pension till October 31, 2024. The UP government had made a provision on March 28, 2005 that employees taking charge on or after April 1, 2005 will be covered under the National Pension System (NPS).
This provision was applied to the personnel of the state government, autonomous institutions controlled by the government and employees and government teachers of educational institutions. There are many teachers and employees who were appointed on or after 1 April 2005 but the job advertisement was published before 28 March 2005.
According to the proposal approved by the cabinet, it has been decided to provide a one-time option of Old Pension Scheme to such employees who were appointed on or after 1 April 2005 but the advertisement for the post was published before 28 March 2005, the date of issuance of notification regarding implementation of NPS. On Saturday, Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar issued the government order.
These employees were demanding the benefits of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for a long time. The central government has already provided this facility to such employees.
NPS accounts of those who choose OPS will be closed on 25 June 2025
The National Pension System (NPS) accounts of employees who opt for OPS will be closed from 30 June 2025. The employees’ contribution deposited in these accounts will be deposited in their General Provident Fund account. The government contribution deposited in these accounts will be deposited in the treasury. Employees who do not exercise the option till 31 October will come under the purview of NPS.
According to the government order, if the employee fulfills the conditions of being covered under Uttar Pradesh Retirement Benefits Rules 1961, then after the approval of the administrative department, an order will be issued by the appointing officer in this regard. The deduction of subscriber contribution and employer contribution from the salary of the next month after the issuance of the order will stop.

Vijay Bandhu met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chirag Paswan, Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma, MP Jagdambika Pal, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Pramod Tiwari, Ujjwal Raman Singh, Rakesh Rathore, AAP MP Sanjay Singh etc. Through this, he demanded to raise the issue of restoration of old pension and ending privatization in Parliament.
