Post Office issued fraud advisory, Account may be emptied by SMS

POST OFFICE FRAUD SMS WARNING: In this digital era, on the one hand, we have the facility of everything, be it online food delivery or banking, but on the other hand, the way of scamming and fraud has also changed now. People also do different types of scams with the help of the internet.

This is a fraud case related to the post office

PIB Fact Check has revealed that messages are being sent to people on their phones in the name of India Post and they are being asked to update the address.

Then in the message being sent through this SMS, people are being given a few days and they are being told that if they do not update their address within the given time, then their incoming package may be returned.

A link is also being sent through this SMS and it is being said that with the help of that link, users can update their address immediately sitting at home and they will get the delivery of the package within 24 hours of the address being updated.

This related link is to a suspicious website, where after entering the details, people become victims of fraud and their money vanishes.

The government told us how to stay safe from these frauds

To protect against SMS fraud and phishing attempts, PIB Fact Check provides tips for the public.

According to these tips, avoid trusting messages coming from unfamiliar sources, especially those messages that create a sense of urgency.

Verify the authenticity of any message claiming to be from a reputable organization by contacting them directly through official channels.

Avoid clicking on links provided in suspicious messages and instead, type in the website address manually if necessary.

Never provide personal or financial information to unknown entities via text messages. Immediately report any suspicious SMS to the concerned authorities or cyber security agencies.

According to the government, if you also receive such a message, ignore it and do not click on suspicious links even by mistake.

Apart from these precautions, PIB Fact Check recommends using trusted applications that provide time alerts and security advice to stay informed about potential threats.
