KUSUM YOJNA: Many types of schemes have been launched by the government to promote solar energy. Among these schemes, there is also a Kusum scheme whose objective is to save the money of the farmers with the help of solar energy and increase their farming income.
Under this scheme, electricity shortage will be eliminated in the areas where electricity is available and farmers will be able to irrigate their fields with the help of solar pumps. The government will also provide subsidies for the installation of solar pumps.
Types of Solar Pump
Under Kusum Yojana, the subsidy will also be available for the installation of 3 and 5-HP solar pumps. Earlier, farmers were given a subsidy on 7.50 HP solar pumps. Farmers can install 3.5 and 7.5 HP solar pumps in their fields.
For Kusum Yojana, farmers are required to have 0.4 hectares of land. Through this scheme, farmers can set up solar power plants on their barren land and can use the electricity generated from it. Along with this, solar energy can be promoted through Kusum Yojana.
General farmers installing 5 HP surface pumps will have to bear Rs 1 lakh 27 thousand 385 and SC-ST farmers will have to bear Rs 82 thousand 385.
Also, general farmers installing submersible solar pumps will have to bear Rs 1 lakh 29 thousand 221 and SC-ST farmers will have to bear Rs 1 lakh 29 thousand 221. Farmers will have to bear Rs 84 thousand 221.
Only farmers of Rajasthan will be able to apply for this scheme. If they are planning to earn along with irrigation, then they can apply on the Rajasthan Kisan Sathi portal for the installation of solar pumps.
Subsidy for solar pump installation
For all states except the North-Eastern States, Hilly States/Union Territories and Insular Union Territories, a subsidy of 30% will be provided by the Central and State Governments and the remaining 40% will be invested by the farmer for installation of solar pumps.
The subsidy in the percentage mentioned above will apply to the benchmark cost or tender cost, whichever is lower.
For North-Eastern States, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh, and Island Union Territories, a subsidy of 50% will be provided by the Central Government for the installation of solar pumps and a subsidy of at least 30% by the State Government. It will be provided to the farmer to invest the remaining 20%.

Farmers can apply online for Kusum Yojana from their nearest eMitra centre or official website. While applying, candidates have to fill in all the information correctly and upload the necessary documents.
