Traffic Rules: The Traffic Prahari App developed by the Delhi Traffic Police is demonstrating significant effectiveness in addressing traffic violations. Recent data from the traffic police indicates that over the past six months, more than 22,000 instances of traffic rule breaches have been reported through the app, leading to action against 9,941 individuals following thorough investigations.

Two-wheelers without helmets

Among these violations, the most prevalent were related to individuals riding two-wheelers without helmets, accounting for 5,274 cases. Additionally, there were 2,169 complaints regarding improper parking, which included 1,155 instances of vehicles parked incorrectly and 1,014 cases of vehicles obstructing footpaths. Other notable violations included 924 instances of driving against traffic and 690 cases concerning damaged number plates.

Furthermore, there were 317 complaints regarding three individuals riding on a single two-wheeler, alongside 16 cases of erratic driving and a mere five instances of running red lights.

Red light violations

Experts suggest that most red light violations are typically identified by enforcement agencies rather than reported by the public. Interestingly, only one complaint regarding taxi overcharging has been recorded. Senior police officials emphasize that reporting violations is no longer merely a civic responsibility; it now includes financial incentives. In September of the previous year, four vigilant citizens were recognized for contributing to 15 percent of the complaints filed within a six-month period.

Awarded Rs 50,000

The individual who submitted the highest number of complaints, totaling 576, was awarded Rs 50,000, while the second-highest contributor, with 560 complaints, received Rs 25,000. Rewards for the subsequent six months following September of last year will be distributed shortly. According to Satyavir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Traffic Police, the app also allows users to report incidents of misconduct, overcharging, or refusal of service by auto and taxi drivers. Users can provide evidence of traffic violations by uploading photos or videos through the app.
