Tragic Accident in Bengal: A major rail accident has happened in West Bengal today. The Kanchenjunga Express collided directly with a goods train near New Jalpaiguri.
The collision was so severe that a coach of the Kanchenjunga Express climbed over the goods train. According to initial information, both the trains came on the same track, due to which this accident happened.
Mamata Banerjee expressed grief, rescue work continues
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over this accident by tweeting and has said that the relief team is being sent to the spot.
According to railway officials, the goods train hit the Kanchenjunga Express standing between Rangapani and Nijbari stations of the Katihar division from behind.
In this accident, about three coaches of the Kanchenjunga Express derailed. The collision was so strong that one coach climbed over the other coach.

The number of injured is expected to be high
As soon as the information about the incident was received, there was a stir in the Katihar Railway Division. Railway officials have left for the accident site from Katihar and New Jalpaiguri with an accident relief train and medical van.
It is being told that more than 20 people are feared to be injured in this accident. However, it has not been confirmed yet how many people have died.
A video surfaced from the spot
The video going viral from the spot clearly shows that some people have also lost their lives in this accident. It is being told that the Kanchanjunga Express going to Seemapur was standing at Rangapani station.
Meanwhile, a freight train hit it from behind, due to which the guard coach and SLR as well as a general coach were badly damaged. Many coaches have derailed. Due to this hundreds of people are reported to be injured.

Statement of officials
Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, Savyasachi Dey has confirmed this incident. He said that the number of injured has not been ascertained yet.
How many passengers have died in this accident? This is also not known yet. Many senior railway officials of the Railway Division and New Jalpaiguri have left for the site of the incident.
Senior DCM Deepraj Chandra Kalita said that accident relief trains and medical vehicles have left for the site of the incident.
