This university was started in the year 2009
The Central University of Punjab was established in 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009. It was one of the 15 new central universities established by the Government of India in different states of the country. Initially, the university operated from a temporary campus in Bathinda city. In 2015, the university began construction of its permanent campus at Ghudda near Bathinda, where its main campus is currently located. Spread over an area of more than 500 acres, the campus was constructed in several phases and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses is through the national level entrance exam CUET (Central Universities Entrance Test) while admission to PhD programmes is through UGC-NET/JRF or the university’s own entrance exam. The admission procedure follows a reservation policy based on merit, with seats reserved for SC, ST, OBC and other categories as per government rules.
