The Oppo A17 represents an inexpensive smartphone with excellent performance, more or less decent photo and video capabilities, and a large battery. It was announced on October 4, 2022, for those who needed a not-so-expensive but capable device.
With a 6.56-inch HD+ display, powered with a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, this model comes equipped with a 5000 mAh battery to offer a great performance-power balance for everyday tasks.
Performance and Processor
The Oppo A17 draws its power from the MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, an octa-core processor made of 2.3 GHz Quad-core Cortex A53 + 1.8 GHz Quad-core Cortex A53 and fabricated on 12 nm fabrication for economical power consumption.
It also contains 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM for seamless multitasking and the PowerVR GE8320 GPU for mid-range graphical performance.
The device runs on Android v12 with Oppo’s ColorOS custom UI.
Display Quality
Oppo A17 features a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display and an HD+ resolution of 720×1612 pixels.
It shows an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 83.7%, while a waterdrop notch is present to provide an almost bezel-less display.
The display comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a brightness of 600 nits that shows clear visibility under varied conditions of light, though the refresh rate tops at 60Hz.
Camera Setup
Rear Camera: The dual-camera system houses a 50 MP f/1.8 primary wide-angle camera and a 2 MP depth sensor, further supporting features such as HDR, digital zoom, face detection, and continuous shooting. It is capable of recording 1080p@30fps with decent performance to cover casual photography.
Front Camera: The front camera is a 5 MP f/2.2 wide-angle camera, which shall be fair enough for selfies and video calls.
While the camera setup doesn’t have OIS, it has other software features, like exposure compensation and ISO control.
Battery
Oppo has slotted in a non-user replaceable 5000 mAh Li-Polymer battery in the Oppo A17, which allows the device to easily last beyond a day.
But while its days are fine, its battery life feels sufficient for basic usage- casual browsing, a bit of media consumption, and calling-without fast charging and USB Type-C in tow.
Storage and Connectivity
The inbuilt storage is 64 GB and supports up to 1TB via a microSD card.
It sports dual SIMs (Nano-SIM) with 4G VoLTE connectivity, besides having onboard Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth v5.3, and GPS with A-GPS and Glonass support.
It also sports a 3.5 mm audio jack coupled with an FM Radio for seamless media consumption.
