BSNL Subscriber loss: BSNL has been striving to expand its user base by revising plans and enhancing services. Despite these efforts, the company faced a decline of approximately 600,000 subscribers between July and October 2024, following an initial surge of around 3.6 million users during the same period. This fluctuation highlights the challenges BSNL faces in retaining customers amidst intense competition.
Initial Surge in BSNL Subscribers
In mid-2024, private telecom operators like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea increased their plan prices. This led many users to switch to BSNL, resulting in a significant rise in its subscriber base by about 3.6 million between July and October 2024. The competitive pricing and service offerings attracted cost-conscious consumers seeking alternatives.
Subsequent Decline and Competitive Pressures
However, as private telecom companies regained their footing, many users reverted to their previous providers, causing BSNL to lose approximately 600,000 subscribers. This shift underscores the competitive nature of the telecom sector, where customer loyalty is heavily influenced by pricing and service quality.
BSNL’s Strategic Response
To compete effectively, BSNL accelerated the deployment of 4G sites, initiating around 83,000 sites, with 75,000 already operational. Additionally, the company is working on introducing 5G services using entirely indigenous equipment, as confirmed by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on foreign technology and bolster the domestic telecom infrastructure.
Challenges in Retaining Subscribers
Despite these advancements, BSNL continues to face challenges in retaining subscribers. The rapid deployment of 4G infrastructure and plans for 5G rollout demonstrate the company’s commitment to improving service quality. However, sustaining and growing its customer base amidst aggressive competition from private operators remains a significant hurdle
