Redmi 9 Power review: The ongoing pandemic has increased our dependence on electronic devices to such an extent that it is now safe to say that our smartphones are the gateway to the outside world. One thing that is more important than ever is battery life.
A dead smartphone is as useless as a mask stuck to the chin. Now, Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 9 Power. This smartphone is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery, one of the largest batteries in a Redmi smartphone.
Redmi 9 Power Design
Smartphones with big batteries are usually bulky and heavy, so this is a compromise you should be willing to make. Xiaomi has tried to make this less compromise and more of an adjustment by keeping the weight of Redmi 9 Power under control. The phone weighs 198 gram it’s even lighter than the Redmi 9 Pro (Review), which weighs 209 grams despite having a smaller battery.
The design of the Redmi 9 Power is somewhat new, and the back panel looks very different from other smartphones in the Redmi 9 series. You have a big Redmi logo on one side, and the entire rear has a textured finish that protects it from fingerprints. Xiaomi has used some attractive colours on the Redmi 9 Power: you get Blazing Blue, Electric Green, and Fiery Red. If you don’t like these you can opt for the more subtle Mighty Black colour option. I had an Electric Green unit, which caught the attention of people around me.
Redmi 9 Power performance
The Redmi 9 Power ran quite well and gives me no reason to complain in terms of performance. It can load apps quickly and multitasking wasn’t an issue with the 4GB RAM. I found the fingerprint scanner to be quick to unlock the device, not requiring more than one attempt. Also you will get an face recognition which is fast and easy to set up.
I enjoyed watching videos on Redmi 9 Power as the stereo speakers made my experience better. There’s support for Widevine L1 so you’ll be able to stream HD content on the Redmi 9 Power without any hassle. Watching content indoors was fun, but the display brightness was low when outdoors.
Redmi 9 Power Cameras
Xiaomi has provided a quad camera setup on the Redmi 9 Power. You will get n 48 megapixel primary camera, an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle camera, an 2 megapixel macro camera and an 2 megapixel depth sensor. Xiaomi’s camera app is same and settings are easy to find. There are quick toggles for HDR and AI mode among other things. Xiaomi has still put the macro camera button in a separate sub menu, which isn’t very easy to notice, rather than being able to select it as a shooting mode.
Photos taken in daylight with the Redmi 9 Power were good and nearby subjects had good details. Dynamic range was acceptable for a smartphone at that price. The wide angle camera captured a fairly wide field of view, but it didn’t reproduce details as well as the primary camera. There are also some noticeable distortion at edges.
