Chaitra Navratri Special Khichdi Recipe Ingredients

  • ½ cup Samak rice (Varai/Sama rice)
  • 1 boiled potato (chopped)
  • 1 small carrot (finely chopped, optional)
  • ¼ cup peanuts (roasted)
  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped) 1 tsp Desi ghee
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves (for taste, optional)
  • ½ tsp sendha namak (fasting salt)
  • 2 cups water
  • A little coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (to enhance the taste)

Method of preparation

First of all, wash the Samak rice thoroughly and soak it for 10-15 minutes. This will cook it quickly. Now heat 1 teaspoon of Desi Ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds and green chillies and fry. If you want a little more flavor, you can also add curry leaves. Now add boiled potatoes and carrots and fry lightly for 2 minutes. This will enhance the taste of the vegetables. After this, add peanuts and soaked Samak rice, mix lightly. Now add 2 cups of water and rock salt and cover. Cook on low flame for 10 minutes. When the Khichdi is cooked well and becomes slightly thick, turn off the gas. Add lemon juice to it and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve it with curd, makhana kadhi or falahari chutney.
