Whether dark circles under the eyes, blemished skin or the first wrinkles: Concealer is a real make-up miracle weapon and can do more than you think. The best tips and tricks for the perfect application.
What is concealer, and what do you need it for?
The term concealer comes from the English word “conceal” (= to conceal, to hide). And that’s exactly what it does: Concealer works like a concealer, covers up typical blemishes such as dark circles under the eyes, pimples , scars, redness and wrinkles and ensures a radiant, awake and fresh face.
The first concealer, the “Erace Cover Stick”, was launched in the USA in 1954 by the cosmetics manufacturer Max Factor. It looked like pink lipstick and promised women a flawless complexion.
How do you apply concealer? More on that in a moment. First, let’s talk about the product and what consistency is right for us.
Type question: The right concealer
The popular make-up tool comes either as a creamy stick, liquid consistency or as a complete palette (with different shades). Each product has its advantages.
Concealer
A true SOS talent and top performer for on-the-go: Thanks to its creamy, firm consistency, it is perfect for redness or pimples, but also for poorly plucked eyebrows. The concealer can be used to make very precise corrections.
Liquid Concealer
The liquid version is easy to apply and spread. It is particularly suitable for dry skin. Be careful: too much of it looks like a mask! Less is more. Unsightly edges can be corrected with an additional make-up brush .
Concealer Palette
It consists of several colours, such as highlighter, bronzer, blusher and/or corrector. This allows the face to be perfectly prepared for contouring. The practical palette creates a flawless base complexion with just one product.
applying concealer – this is how it’s done correctly!
Preparation
The beige-yellow highlighter should be 2-3 shades lighter than our natural skin tone (or 1-2 colors lighter than the foundation). You should also use a corrector concealer with an orange or slightly bluish undertone for dark circles under the eyes. To combat redness, spots or veins, the product can have a greenish shimmer (in each case, this goes under the highlighter).
Before applying concealer, cleanse the skin and use a day cream and eye cream. Once everything has been absorbed, it is best to apply foundation beforehand.
Application of concealer
Dab the concealer onto spots, redness, etc. and under the eyes with an applicator, beauty blender or brush. Distribute the colour generously above the cheekbone (in an inverted triangle shape). Don’t forget the inner corners of the eyes; this will give you an extra awake look.
Gently “pat” the dots in with your ring finger—do not rub; otherwise, wrinkles will form! After applying the concealer, fix the end result with powder. Then, apply your makeup as usual.
