World Tuberculosis Day 2025: What is Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs. This disease is caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, these bacteria spread in the air and can enter the body of a healthy person.
TB is not easy to identify because its symptoms sometimes look like common cold and cough. Due to this, people often ignore it. If not taken care of in time, this disease can take a serious form and can also spread to other parts of the body.
World Tuberculosis Day 2025: Symptoms of TB
One of the most common symptoms of TB is persistent cough, which lasts for more than three weeks. Cough may sometimes cause bleeding. Apart from this, symptoms like high fever, night sweats, weight loss, feeling tired and shortness of breath also appear.
Many times people ignore these symptoms considering them to be normal fatigue or weakness. But if these symptoms persist for a long time, then a doctor should be consulted immediately. If TB is detected early, its treatment can be simple and effective.
World Tuberculosis Day 2025: Treatment of TB
TB treatment is completely possible, but it requires regular medication and care. Antibiotics are used to treat TB, which lasts for about 6 to 9 months. During this time, regular intake of medicine is very important, because stopping the medicine in between can make the disease even more serious.
The Government of India has started DOTS therapy for the treatment of TB, in which medicines are given to the patient regularly. Under this treatment, the patient is given medicine under the supervision of a health worker so that the medicine is consumed properly. A TB patient should consume a nutritious diet, which includes protein, vitamins and green vegetables. Also, a clean environment and adequate rest are also necessary.
