The earthquake’s epicentre was located where the plates of India and Eurasia collided. China said that at least 95 people were killed in the earthquake in the Tibet region near the Nepal border. According to media reports, some communities were within 5 kilometres (3 miles) of the epicentres, 380 kilometres (240 miles) from Lhasa.
People in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, rushed out of their homes after strong tremors. “I was sleeping. The bed was shaking, and I thought my child was shaking it. I didn’t pay much attention to it, but the shaking of the window made me realise it was an earthquake. I quickly called my child and ran out of the house into an open field,” Kathmandu resident Mira Adhikari told news agency ANI.
