Assam Mine Accident: A rescue operation is underway to save the workers trapped after water suddenly filled a 300-foot-deep coal mine in Umrangso in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. One worker has died due to the rising water level. Nine workers were trapped here for the last 48 hours.
According to the latest information, a body has been recovered from the coal mine located at 3 Kilo in the Umrangso area. The body of the labourer was taken out in the rescue operation. The Army’s diving team of 21 PARA SF has taken charge of rescuing the workers trapped in the mine. Nine workers are still trapped inside the mine.
The mine was suddenly flooded on January 6. The army has been called to rescue the workers. The operation was stopped on Tuesday night. Rescue has started again in the morning.

NDRF Deputy Commandant N Tiwari said the operation stopped yesterday evening and started again this morning. We hope to reach our miners very soon and rescue them. Tiwari said that a joint team of the NDRF and Army is working on the ground, and help from the Navy is expected in the coming hours.
A miner said that there were many people in the mine, and suddenly, people started shouting when the water started filling up. About 30-35 people came up, and it is said that about 9 people are still trapped.
