Several banks across the country will remain closed on Friday, November 15, for Guru Nanak Jayanti. Notably, the stock market will also close on this day. November 15 coincides with Kartik Purnima and Ganga Dussehra (Gangasnan), but the holiday specifically marks Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Where Banks Will Remain Closed

Banks in states and cities including Maharashtra, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Jammu, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar will observe this holiday. If you have any essential banking tasks in these areas, be sure to complete them by Thursday, November 14, as banks will reopen on Saturday, November 16.

Stock market will also be closed on 15 November

On Friday, November 15, the stock market will also be closed, with no trading on either the BSE or NSE exchanges. Additionally, both the commodity market and currency exchange will remain closed. Following this, the stock market will observe its regular weekend holiday on Saturday and Sunday, November 16 and 17, respectively. As a result, the stock market will be closed for three consecutive days—November 15, 16, and 17—giving traders, brokers, and investors a long weekend.

Reserve Bank’s Prior Announcement

The Reserve Bank had previously declared November 15 a bank holiday, listing it in the official calendar of bank holidays. This day, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru, falls on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the Kartik month and is celebrated across India.
