Indian Railways Waiting Ticket: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav responded to the query regarding waiting tickets in Rajya Sabha. In reply to a written inquiry, he stated that traveling in a reserved coach with a waiting ticket is not permitted. Nonetheless, he also mentioned that the railway pass lacks the information of those passengers.
Traveling with a waiting ticket is not permitted
Traveling in a reserved and AC coach with a waiting ticket is not permitted. Following the Railway Minister’s remarks, people began to wonder whether traveling by train with a waiting ticket is now impossible. As per the 2010 circular from the Railways, only individuals with confirmed and partially confirmed (RAC) seats are permitted to travel in reserved coaches.
An e-ticket for a passenger on the IRCTC waiting list will be automatically canceled
Many people frequently wonder whether they can travel on the train with a waiting ticket purchased from the ticket counters at the railway station. We would like to inform you that an e-ticket for a passenger on the IRCTC waiting list will be automatically canceled. Simultaneously, travelers can ride exclusively in general coaches by purchasing counter waitlist tickets. In other words, you are not allowed to travel in reserved coaches while waiting at the counter. We would like to inform you that there have been no alterations to the railway rules concerning waiting tickets.
TT can impose a penalty
If you enter a reserved coach with a waiting ticket, you will incur charges from the train’s starting point to where the TTE apprehended you, plus a penalty of Rs 440. In addition to this, the TT can also have you disembark partway. As per the Railway’s 2010 notification, travel in reserved sleeper or AC coaches is permitted only with confirmed and RAC tickets.
