Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big announcement regarding road accidents in the beginning of 2025. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced cashless treatment for victims of road accidents. Gadkari said that the police will have to be informed within 24 hours of the accident. The scheme will cover medical expenses up to seven days or up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh. The Union Minister said that in case of death in the hit-and-run case, a compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the family.

The government had experimented with this scheme in Assam, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Puducherry. According to the information, the government will introduce the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act in the next session of Parliament, after which it will be implemented across the country from March.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that 1,80,000 people died in road accidents in the year 2024. At the same time, 32 thousand people died due to not wearing helmets. Sixty percent of the accidents occurred in the age group of 18 to 34 years. At the same time, 10,000 deaths have occurred only in front of schools and colleges because there is no proper arrangement at exit-entry points.

Government will take these steps to prevent accidents

Gadkari said, “There was a big meeting on road safety on Tuesday. In which more emphasis has been laid on security measures. The meeting stressed on taking appropriate steps to prevent road accidents.” He further said that the government will work on introducing three safety measures to prevent accidents in commercial vehicles. It has electronic stability control, emergency braking system and audio alert mechanism when the driver is sleepy. The minister said the suggestion was revolutionary. It will also happen in trucks and buses.
